John Herrmann
Sr. Associate

John is an applied sociologist with more than 20 years’ experience interpreting and mapping the social dynamics of organizations with a particular focus on the interplay between an organization’s formal structure and its informal culture.

He earned a BA in Political and Social Thought from the University of Virginia (UVA) with “highest distinction,” UVA’s equivalent of summa cum laude. He holds an MA from UVA in Sociology where he was also a PhD Candidate, focusing his research in political sociology, conflict management, and the sociology of organizations. One of his notable projects from this time period was a study of gossip as a mode of social control in academic life. While at UVA, he taught courses in criminology, sociology of law, and health care systems. John is university trained in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and throughout his career has practiced as a multi-method researcher.

In addition to his broad training in the areas of social interaction and political thought, John has worked extensively in the medical field, with five years of program development and evaluation research at the UVA Health System and more than 10 years with PRA International, a leading Clinical Research Organization (CRO), where he held several research and management posts. While at PRA, John received extensive training in quality and process management which he applied as a manager in the biostatistics & medical writing department and as the senior manager for investigative site contracting.

John is an expert on organizational culture and identifying the bureaucratic and normative obstacles to an organization’s success. He is skilled in helping organizational leaders to clarify their goals and motivate their employees, customers, and other stakeholders to reach mutually desired outcomes.

Joe Feldman

Joe has more than 20 years experience in strategic planning and building brands, both famous and emerging. He has worked for a number of leading advertising agencies, including TBWA/Chiat Day, Secret Weapon Marketing (Jack in the Box), and RPA.

His planning experience includes foundational branding studies, product launches, and consumer and market insights. He has managed all forms of quantitative and qualitative techniques including segmentation studies, creating media targets and strategies, and identifying core and opportunity markets and consumer segments.

Beyond conducting foundational brand, consumer and market research, Joe has created successful communication strategies to deliver the objectives, from brand campaigns, regional market introductions, 360 online and offline advertising planning, ROI-driven direct response advertising, recruitment, customer retention and sales training and incentive programs.
